The TOOLBUS I nterface for ARIS and System Architect enables the migration o f Data and Process Models from ARIS Business Architect to Entity Relation Models and Business Process Diagrams (BPMN Diagrams) in IBM Rational S ystem A rchitect, and vice versa. Model Mapping o ARIS IE Data Model Diagrams (Information Engineering Data Model), eERM Diagrams (extended Entity – Relationship Model), SAP – SERM Diagrams (Struc tured Entity – Relationship Model) and Attribute Allocation Diagram s are m igrat ed to Entity Relation Diagrams in Rational System Architect, and vice versa. o ARIS Function Trees (Process Decompositions), Value – Added Chain Diagrams, Event – Process – Chain Diagra ms (EPCs) and BPMN Diagrams are m igrat ed to Business Process Diagrams (BPMN) in Rational System Architect, and vice versa. The layout of the d iagrams is maintained in both directions.

Conversion Process

In order t o migrate D a ta and P rocess M odel s from ARIS to Rational System Architect, a n ARIS Group (e.g. the Main Group) is s elected and exported to a XML file (AML file), including the contained Groups. The ARIS XML export file is converted to a standard interface file called ” TOOLBUS”. Then a model conversion is done based on the TOOLBUS file in order to com pensate the differences of the information models of ARIS and Rational System Architect, and a modified TOOLBUS file is generated. The TOOLBUS interface programs update the target Rational System Architect Encyclopedia by the API functions of Rational System Architect, using the modified TOOLBUS file as input source. In order t o migrate D ata and P rocess models from Rational System Architect to ARIS the Rational System Archi tect Encyclopedia is exported to a TOOLBUS file by a TOOLBUS program, which uses the API functions of Rational System Architect. Then a model conversion is done based on the TOOLBUS file in order to com pensate the differences of the information models of Rational System Architect and ARIS, and a modified TOOLBUS file is generated. A n ARIS XML import file (AML file) is generated from the modified TOOLBUS file.

The TOOLBUS Interface for the ARIS and Rational System Architect requires Microsoft W indows XP /Vista / 7. The interface supports ARIS Business Architect (and other ARIS tools including ARIS Business Architect technology) v ersions 6.2 to 7. 2, and IBM Rational System Architect v ersions 9.0 to 11. 4.
