The ARIS XML File Exporter for Rational Software Architect enables the export of – UML Activity Diagrams, – UML Class Diagrams, – UML Collaboration Diagrams, – UML Component Diagrams, – UML Sequence Diagrams, – UML State Machine Diagrams (UML State Chart Diagrams) and – UML Use Case Diagrams from IBM Rational Software Architect (RSA), Rational Software Modeler (RSM) and Rational Systems Developer (RSD) to XML import files (AML Files) for ARIS Business Architect and ARIS UML Designer, and to other ARIS products, which include ARIS Business Architect or ARIS UML Designer functionality. The UML diagrams from RSM/RSA/RSD and the cont ained UML objects are converted for ARIS UML diagrams with their properties and documentat ion. The layout of the UML diagrams from RSM, RSA and RSD is maintained in the UML diagrams in ARIS.
Conversion Process
The ARIS UML Designer Exporter for Rational Software Architect uses the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) to export UML diagrams from Rational Software Architect, Rational Software Architect and Rational Systems Developer, and it generates XML (AML) import files for ARIS UML Designer.

The ARIS XML File Exporter for Rational Software Architect supports IBM Rational Software Architect, Rational Software Modeler and Rational Systems Developer versions 7.0, 7.5 and 8.0, and ARIS Business Architect and ARIS UML Designer versions 7.0 and 7.1.
