Important to know

The TOOLBUS Interface for AllFusion ERwin Data Modeler and Rational XDE enables the conversion of Logical and Physical Data Models from AllFusion ERwin to UML Class Models and Data Models for Rational XDE, and vice versa. Conversion Paths from AllFusion ERwin to IBM Rational XDE:
1. Logical Data Models from AllFusion ERwin can be converted to UML Class Diagrams for Rational XDE.
2. Physical Data Models from AllFusion ERwin can be converted to Data Models for Rational XDE.
3. Logical and Physical Models from AllFusion ERwin can be migrated to both UML Class Models and Data Models in Rational XDE and the links between the UML objects (Classes, Attributes, Associations) and the Data Model objects (Tables, Columns, Foreign Keys) are established.
Conversion Paths from IBM Rational XDE to AllFusion ERwin:
1. UML Class Diagrams from Rational XDE can be converted to Logical Data Models for AllFusion ERwin.
2. Data Models from Rational XDE can be converted to Physical Data Models for AllFusion ERwin.
3. UML Class Diagrams and Data Models from Rational XDE can be converted to Logical and Physical Data Models for AllFusion ERwin, and the links between the Data Model objects (Tables, Columns, Foreign Keys) and the UML objects (Classes, Attributes, Associations) and the are established. UML Classes, Generalizations/Specializations, Associations, Attributes and Global Domains are mapped to Entities, Subtype Relationships, Relationships, Attributes and Domains in AllFusion ERwin, and vice versa. Databases, Tables, Columns, etc. are also converted in both directions. The diagram layout is maintained during the conversion.

Conversion Process

The TOOLBUS Interface uses the API functions of the Rational XDE Extensions (RXE) and additional API functions of the Rational XDE SDK, and the XML export/import files of AllFusion ERwin. Remark: Rational XDE must be available on the computer where the TOOLBUS Interface is executed. The installation of AllFusion ERwin is not required to run the interface.

Platform

The TOOLBUS Interface for AllFusion ERwin and Rational XDE requires Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP, and it supports AllFusion ERwin 4.1 and 4.1.4, and IBM Rational XDE 2003.
