Important to know

The TOOLBUS Interface for Advantage Gen for Enterprise Servers (formerly available as IEF / Composer / COOL:Gen ) and Oracle Designer enables the exchange of Data Models and Process Hierarchies in both directions:
+ Entities, Relationships, Attr ibutes and Identifiers are bidir ectionally migrated with their properties and textual descriptions. + Type and Length information of Domains in Designer is transformed to Type and Length information of Attributes in Advantage Gen. Type and Length information of Attributes in Advantage Gen is migrated to Type and Length information of Designer Attributes.
+ For every Entity-Relationship Diagram of Designer a Scoped Data Model is created in Advantage Gen, with the following restrictions: – As the layout of the Entity-Relationship Diagrams cannot be exported from Oracle Designer, a default position is calculated for Entities in Advantage Gen. – Scoped Data Models from Advantage Gen can not be migrated to Designer, as the import of Diagrams is not supported by the API functions of Designer.
+ Attribute Values from Designer are transfor med to Permitted Values in Advantage Gen, and vice versa.
+ Function Hierarchies are migr ated from Designer to Activity Hierarchies in Advantage Gen, and vice versa. All textual descriptions of Business Functions / Processes are transferred.
+ Usages of Entities and Attributes by Functi ons (CRUD matrices) from Designer are mapped to Expected Effects in Advantage Gen, and vice versa

Conversion Process

Migration Process: To migrate models from Designer to Advantage Gen, an Application System is selected with the Graphical User Inte rface (GUI) of TOOLBUS. The Data Models and Process Hierarchies, which are contained in th is Application System, are exported to a standard interface file called “TOOLBUS”. Then the TOOLBUS interface uses the Read/Update API of Advantage Gen to import the objects from Designer into a newly created Advantage Gen Toolset Encyclopedia. To migrate a model from Advantage Gen to D esigner, the Advantage Gen Toolset Encyclopedia is exported with the Read API of Advantage G en to an intermediate TOOLBUS File. The TOOLBUS update program builds a new Applicati on System or updates the latest version of an existing Application System by the function s provided by the API (Application Programmatic Interface) of Designer, using the TOOLBUS file as input.

Platform: The TOOLBUS Interface for Advantage Gen and Oracle Designer requires Windows NT/2000/XP, or Windows 95/98/Me. It supports Advantage Gen releas es 4.1a, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 and 6.0, Oracle Designer/2000 release 1.3, and Oracle Designer releases 2.1, 2.1.2, 6.0 and 6i.
