Convert PowerDesigner Data (CDM) / Logical Data (LDM) / Physical Data (PDM) to CA Gen

Important to know

The TOOLBUS Interface for CA Gen and PowerDesigner enables the migration of Conceptual Data Models (Entity-Relationship Models) and Physical Data Models (Technical Designs) from CA Gen (formerly available as COOL:Gen, Advantage Gen, AllFusion Gen ) into Sybase PowerDesigner CDM and PDM:
+ Entities, Entity Subtypes (Partitionings), Relationships and Attributes are migrated with their properties and descriptions.
+ Subject Areas from CA Gen are converted to Packages in PowerDesigner CDM.
+ Scoped Data Models from CA Gen are convert ed to data model diagrams in PowerDesigner CDM.
+ Technical Models (Tables, Columns, Keys, Indexes, etc.) from CA Gen are migrated into Physical Data Models in PowerDesigner PDM.
+ The references from the physical objects to the conceptual objects are inserted as Version Information for the physical objects (e.g. for Tables, Attributes and Foreign Keys) in PowerDesigner PDM, thus enabling forward and reverse engineering of conceptual and physical data models in update mode.

Conversion Process

In order to migrate a model from CA Gen to PowerDesigner the model is exported from the CA Gen Toolset Encyclopedia with the Read API of CA Gen to an intermediate TOOLBUS File. The TOOLBUS programs generate CDM and PDM files from the intermediate TOOLBUS file.

Platform

The TOOLBUS Interface for CA Gen and PowerDesigner requires Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista. It supports CA Gen (or COOL:Gen, Advantage Gen, AllFusion Gen) 5.x, 6.x, r7.5 and r7.6, and Sybase PowerDesigner versions 12.0, 12.5, 15.0 and 15.1.
