Important to know

The TOOLBUS Interface for PowerDesigner and Select SE enables the conversion of Logical and Physical Data Models from Select SE (formerly available as Systems Engineer from LBMS ) to Conceptual Data Models (CDM files) for PowerDesigner. Entities, Relationships, Attributes and Data Items from Select SE are mapped to Entities, Relationships, Attributes and Domains in PowerDesigner. The Table and Column names from Select SE are mapped to C ode names for Entities and Attributes in PowerDesigner in order to facilitate the generati on of Physical Data Models (PDM files) with proper physical names in PowerDesigner. For every Data Model or Data Model Subs et from Select SE a Data Model Diagram is created in PowerDesi gner, and the diagram layout is maintained. The TOOLBUS interface provides several ru les for the mapping of SE Data Items to PowerDesigner Attributes and Domains, wh ich can be selected as options for the conversion.

Conversion Process

In order to migrate models from the Select SE repository to PowerDesigner all or selected data models are exported into a DIF f ile (.001 file) by the Repository Services of Select SE. The DIF f ile is converted to an intermediate TOOLBUS file, from which a CDM (XML) file for PowerDesigner is generated.

Platform

The TOOLBUS Interface for PowerDesigner and Select SE requires Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista. The interface supports Po werDesigner versions 9.5, 10, 11 and 12, and Select SE (Systems Engineer) Versions 6 and 7.
